bday.

now that it's over and done with...

birthdays can take on several forms as people progress. as a kid, you look forward to it for reasons of material nature, gifts. once gifts loses it's lure because you have the capacity to buy the things you want, you celebrate it as an excuse to be partying/drinking with friends. i say excuse because at this time, all your friends has lives of their own... gathering up the herd can become daunting (reasons: work, girlfriend/boyfriend, husband/wife, kids, location, time, money, etc). after the draw of alcohol and partying weans... it then turns into it's truest form... a celebration of life. during this time, you gratefully look at the years past and how far along you've come since your humble beginnings. finally, as it winds down... birthdays ceases to be a celebration. because once you reach a certain age, it just serves as a reminder of how much time you have left and what still needs to be done. a ticking clock.
