don't you just hate it how some people think they know how to run your life better than you do?
i just had a major argument with my mom. belated happy mother's day.
yes, parents do know best...
but sometimes, they seem to overlook things. 'what's best for you' may not be what's gonna give you the fulfilment you seek.
i know their reasoning might come from the observations they've had...
but observations are different from experiences.
with parents, it's all playing it safe and not taking chances...
but risk is a part of life. you don't go through a full life unscathed.
they tend to look at things as black and white...
but color brings intensity, depth and meaning to an otherwise bland existence.
the saying 'papunta ka pa lang, pabalik na ako' implies that they know what lies ahead for you...
but it does not mean that they can predict what you feel when you blindly follow the dots they laid out for you.
parents say that they're just trying to steer you away from their past mistakes...
but if they let me make the choice, at least the mistake i make is mine.
they have a way of weeding out what is good/bad for you...
but what's good/bad for someone can never be absolute.
i have nothing but respect for parents (the normal ones ie. not crazy, abusive, neglectful, etc)...
but come maturity, you have to also respect the choices of your children. just be there for them when they come running back to you hurt. even if they have been forewarned. this way, they get to live their own lives. not just an attempt to fix the life you wanted for your own.
so, do i defy...? if only i had a more solid ground to stand on.
* speaking of crazy moms...
Mom drives son to rob jewelry store
Wed May 16, 2007 4:09PM EDTBERLIN (Reuters) - A 36-year-old German mother-of-five drove her son to a jewelry store he wanted to rob because she was afraid he may come to some harm, Bild newspaper reported Wednesday.
While her 17-year-old son and his two accomplices stabbed and robbed a jeweler in the eastern city of Dresden, the mother waited outside in the car.
"I knew he wanted to rob the shop and I was very worried about him," top-selling Bild quoted the mother as saying.
A court sentenced the woman to three years and ten months in prison, a spokeswoman for the court said.
