A huge marketing plot from the get-go.
At first, rumors spread from the eheads' newsgroups.
Then people wanted more info so they gradually leaked some details, like the month and location (Aug at the CCP open grounds).
Then payout talks, like each band member was getting paid 10M for a night's worth of performance.
Then it was clarified that 10M was for the whole band already.
Then, the firm paying them, Marlboro. But since a law was passed that tobacco companies can't do ads anymore , it was kept at rumor level... with full deniability.
Then tickets. People started asking how to get tickets. They said it was going to be a "free" concert, only passes are needed and those passes are not for minors (for "security/safety" purposes according to Ely Buendia). It was then leaked that you'd have to sign up with Marlboro's mailing list in order to get yourself on the "Red List". Once there, you are apparently eligible to be considered for free tickets.
Then yesterday, I found out that Marlboro backed out as the main sponsor due to some legal gibberish and now tickets are for sale at 1,300+ each. A co-worker showed me his. And that it would now be at the Fort open field.
Nice tactic from Marlboro to get everybody to sign up with them.

Tanga! You think marlboro will spend all that money just for a few hundred people to sign up. They may have pulled-out because of this, that, and the other - but I doubt that was the intention to begin with. Tanga!
ReplyDeleteyou've completely missed the point of advertising friend. companies will pay huge sums of money for this.
ReplyDeleteif advertising was not marlboro's intention to begin with as you say, then what was?
